Bulgaria is situated in the north-east part of the Balkan Peninsula. The territory of the country is almost 111 000 sq. m. One third of the territory of the country are mountains.
Borders: its neighbouring country on the north is Romania, on the west – Serbia and Macedonia, on the south – Greece and Turkey, on the east its border is the Black Sea.
Capital: Sofia.
Government structure: parliamentary republic.
As of 01 January 2007 Bulgaria has been made a member of the European Union.
